Pirates to ‘invade’ the Park this weekend

‘Pirate Days at Lake Blackshear’ holiday weekend event kicks off Friday afternoon at Veterans State Park

 

Three “pirates” were on hand at Wednesday’s Rotary Club meeting to promote the Pirate Days at Lake Blackshear event scheduled for this weekend at Veterans State Park.

The Pirate Days will kick off with a treasure hunt at the beach beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday. Festivities will continue with the pirates’ arrival at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a water gun batttle at 10:30 that morning, then a hay ride at 11. Saturday afternoon events will begin with “Pirate Archery” from 2-4 and a “Pirate Treasure Hike at 4 p.m.

Sunday’s events include a black powder demonstration at the visitors center at 10 a.m. and pirate water games for kids from 2-4 p.m. The Pirate Days conclude on Labor Day with a farewell to the “Pirates of Lake Blackshear” at the park beach at 9 a.m.

Guests are heartily encouraged to come dressed in their best pirate garb.
