Wilcox softball sweeps region doubleheader at Irwin

On Monday the Wilcox County High School softball team traveled to play a region doubleheader against Irwin County. The Lady Patriots defeated the hosts in both games by scores of 14-2 (game one) and 13-0 (game two).

Lady Patriots 14, Irwin County 2 

In game one, Wilcox scored three runs in the first inning, five in the second, and then six in the bottom of the fourth for their total of 14, while the hosts managed just two scores.

Grace Keene and Jalynn Keene each put in two innings of work in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Patriots in the first contest. Grace Keene pitched two shutout innings and allowed just one hit and two walks while recording four strikeouts, while Jalynn Keene allowed two unearned runs on two hits while striking out two batters in her pair of innings.

Chastity Stephens, Destiny Tisdol, and Grace Keene all led the Wilcox batting lineup in game one with two hits each.

Final offensive stats for the Wilcox batting order in game one were as follows: Tisdol- two hits, one walk, one RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs scored; Grace Keene- two hits (one double), two RBIs, and one run; Bailee Barnard- one hit, one RBI, and two runs; Stephens- two hits, two RBIs, and three runs; Maci Martin- one hit, one RBI, one stolen base, and one run; Lexie Anderson- one hit, one hit by pitch, one RBI, and one run; Blakelyn Bloodworth- one walk, one RBI, and one run; Madison Terry- one hit, one walk, one RBI, and one run; Jalynn Keene-one hit, one RBI, and one run.

Lady Patriots 13, Irwin 0 

In game two, Wilcox took control early on with a six-run top half of the first inning. The Lady Patriots later tacked on one score in the second, two in the third, and four in the top of the fourth for the total tally of 13.

Bloodworth pithced a four-inning complete game shutout for the Lady Patriots in the run-rule shortened win in game two. She walked one batter and allowed two Irwin hits, while also recording one strikeout. Bloodworth also recorded two hits in three plate appearances to help lead the Wilcox batting lineup.

Final totals for the Lady Patriot batting lineup from the win in game two: Tisdol- one hit and two RBIs; Mackenzie White- one hit, one walk, and two runs; Grace Keene- one walk and one run; Sara Nutt- one walk and one RBI; Barnard- two hits, one RBI, and one run; Kaleigh Walls-one hit, one RBI, and one run; Stephens- one hit, two walks, two RBIs, one stolen base, and two runs; Martin- one walk and one stolen base; Anderson- one walk, one RBI, and one run; Bloodworth- two hits, one RBI, one stolen base, and two runs; Terry- two walks and two runs; Jalynn Keene- one hit, one walk, one RBI, and one run.

Wilcox brought their overall record to 11-4 on the season with a 9-1 mark in region play after the two wins over Irwin.

The Lady Patriots are scheduled for a home game tonight against Telfair County starting at 6 p.m.

Following today’s matchup versus Telfair, the next game on the schedule for Wilcox is set for next Tuesday at home against Charlton County starting at 5:30 p.m.
