CRISP VOLUNTEERS TO CLEAN LAKE IN ANNUAL RIVER CLEANUP

October 19, 2019 area residents will wade into Lake Blackshear as part of the continuing statewide campaign to clean and preserve over 70,000 miles of Georgia’s rivers and streams. The effort will be part of Rivers Alive, a program of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. The annual Georgia Waterway Cleanup is expected to once again be the largest single volunteer effort to beautify Georgia’s water resources.

Volunteers in Crisp will stage their cleanup at 9-11 a.m. on October 19, 2019 at the Blue Hole. They will be joining an estimated 30,000 other volunteers statewide participating in the annual river cleanup. This fall over 200 cleanups will collect trash and similar debris in streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands and the ocean.

“KCB is especially looking for volunteers that have a jet ski, small boat, kayak, or dip net that can pick up from the water. Our primary volunteer is youth so we like to keep them out of the water for safety reasons,” said Catherine Harrell, Executive Director of Keep Crisp Beautiful. In addition to Keep Crisp Beautiful, the cleanup in Crisp will be sponsored by County 4-H, Cordele-Crisp Chamber of Commerce, Crisp County Power Commission, Cordele-Crisp Tourism, and Wells Hardware.

Dozens of other local organizations will be sponsoring individual cleanups around the state. To volunteer for the Crisp cleanup, contact Catherine Harrell at (229) 273-1669. For more information about efforts in other areas or the statewide campaign, go to www.riversalive.org
