Lovers of fresh produce have a new place in Cordele to get their fix. D&T Produce has officially opened its second retail location in town, and owners Debra and Tommy Young have chosen Cordele’s historic downtown district to be the site’s home.

“We’re so excited to be opening our second location here in downtown Cordele,” Debra Young said Thursday morning at a ceremony marking the business’ opening at the intersection of 16th Ave. and 7th St. “We’ve listened to our customers and we’re glad to be able to give them what they want.”

“It’s important to us that we do everything we can to support our local farmers and to support our local economy,” Tommy Young added.

Cordele Main Street Director Monica Mitchell, who has worked for more than a decade now to revitalize Cordele’s downtown, said the historic district is perfect for small businesses like D&T Produce – and vice versa.

“Small business is the heartbeat of communities like ours,” Mitchell said, “and our heart is in downtown Cordele.”

Local banker Patti Deal, who chairs Cordele Main Street’s downtown revitalization committee, agreed.

“The convenience of this location is going to be great for everyone, and I am very proud to be able to welcome D&T Produce to downtown Cordele,” she said.

Cordele Board of Commissioners Chairman John Wiggins said he appreciated the Youngs for their civic-mindedness and wished them well.

“I can’t begin to tell you how vitally important it is to continue to bring businesses to our downtown area,” Wiggins said. “Thank you for locating this great business here.”
