According to Crisp County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Haley Wade, the agency’s Special Response Team (SRT) is on the scene at an Oak Ave. residence where an armed man has barricaded himself inside. Gunfire has been exchanged between authorities and the armed man, although no injuries are reported. Wade says the area is dangerous and people should avoid the area if at all possible.

The SRT has been on scene since approximately 7 a.m. Sunday morning, when officers with the Cordele Police Department (CPD) reportedly called for assistance. Also on scene with the SRT and CPD are a bomb unit with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations, the Dooly County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, which has provided a Bearcat armored unit for personnel protection.

This is an ongoing, developing story. We will update as new information becomes available.
