Mary  passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Crisp Regional Hospital.  She was born on December 12, 1937 in Vienna, Georgia to James Lamb Murphy and Eugenia Elizabeth Murphy.  She was a member of the Baptist faith and attended church when her health allowed. Mary worked for Bellsouth and AT&T for 40 years before retiring and was an active member of the American Telephone Pioneers and the Lioness Club. Mary loved animals; especially her two Pomeranians, Zoey and Bear. She loved working in the yard and her garden and was known for her day lilies and geraniums. Mary enjoyed watching the cooking channel on TV, cheering on The Atlanta Braves, and reading a good book. Her holiday decorating skills were legendary as were her love for people and desire to spend time with her family and friends. She had a mind of her own and very few were ever successful in getting her to change it, but was best known for her heart of gold and generosity.

She is survived by her loving sister, Betty Gene O’Neal of Cordele;  a nephew, Mike O’Neal and his fiancée Sherry Cox of Cordele;  two great-nieces, Amanda (Matt) Neisent and Kelly O’Neal (Kriston Savage) both of Cordele; three great-great-nieces, Layla, Destiny, and Mackenna, all of Cordele; three great-great-nephews, Reece, Maxx and Maverick, all of Cordele; and special family members Lamar and Ingrid of Cordele; Joy and Johnny of Centerville; and Gail and Chuck of Centerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Lamb and Eugenia Elizabeth Murphy, and beloved brother-in-law James O’Neal. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Flint Humane Society, 3759 Slosheye Trail Vienna, Georgia. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
