MACCLENNY, FL. — Mrs. Flavia Louise Whitt, age 99,  of  Macclenny, Florida died  Monday, Dec. 14, at the home of daughter in Rochelle, Georgia following an extended illness.  Mrs. Whitt was born on Jan. 14, 1916 in Birmingham, Alabama to Bernado and Julia Fratoddi.  She received her nursing training at St. Vincents Hospital in Birmingham, graduating as a registered nurse.  She was married to  J.P. Whitt, Jr.  and they moved to Macclenny, Florida  in 1960.  “Whitt”  as she was usually called, was a part of the original  staff when Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital opened its doors in 1958.  She was totally dedicated to the people of Baker County and actively nursed until her retirement in 1988 at the age of 72.  She spent the next 18 years  as a volunteer at various hospitals and nursing homes in Jacksonville and Macclenny, Fla. She was honored to have the Surgical Unit at Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital dedicated to her for her many years of service to the community of Baker County.  She was former member of the Macclenny Women’s Club and an enthusiastic member of the Charmers, a singing and dancing group that entertained throughout Florida and Georgia for many years.  Mrs. Whitt moved to Georgia  in 2006 to be with her daughter and son-in-law. Mrs. Whitt was one of the founding families of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Macclenny, Fla. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law,  Sara  Louise and Joseph Lee of Rochelle, Georgia:  Her nephews and wives,  Bob and Betty McGowan of Georgetown, Ga., Pat and Anita McGowan of Big Canoe, Ga. Max and Patricia Fratoddie of Bluffton, S.C. and their extended families:  Grandchildren, Hannah and Sean James of Kingsland, Ga., Nathan  and Erin Lee of Folkston, Ga., Adam Lee of Ambrose, Ga. and Martha Rose Lee of Linton, Indiana  and 10 great-grandchildren:  Her longtime caregiver and companion, Amy Hubbard of Cordelle, Ga. Many thanks for the care given to Mrs. Whitt by Rescare Home Care of Eastman, Ga. and Reflections Hospice of Cordelle, Ga. A funeral mass to honor the life of Mrs. Whitt will be held at 3 P.M. Friday, Dec.  18, in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Macclenny, Fla. with Father  Slawomir  Bielasiewicz  officiating.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Macclenny, Florida.  Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M.
