COBB — Luther Bond Sims, 84, died Sunday, January 17, 2016. Funeral services for Mr. Sims will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services with a private burial at Bay Spring Cemetery. All family members are invited to the burial service. The family will receive friends prior to the service Wednesday beginning at 1:00 pm until the hour of the service.
He was born in Vidalia and was the son of the late William Wallace Sims and Ettiene Bond Sims.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Vernell Hauesler Sims and Hortense Faircloth Sims. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, William Wallace Sims, Jr., Nellie Sims Pannell and Lucy Sims Pirkle.
Mr. Sims was a Postman (RET) with the United States Postal Service and a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954.
He is survived by his three daughters, Darlene Sims Williamson of Winston-Salem, NC, Patty Sims Pritchett (Gene) of Jesup and Tammie Sims of Cobb; two adopted daughters, Gena Marie Moore of Cordele and Pamela Hancock Cohen of Abbeville; his sons, Ray Faircloth of Cordele, Tim Faircloth (Frances) of Cleveland and Tony Faircloth (Kami) of Arabi; his sister, Mary Sims Faircloth of Tifton; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Pannell of Warner Robins and Hewlett Hauesler (Thelma) of Arabi; 12 grandchildren, Ashley Williamson Keltner (Joe) of Erie, CO, Jessica Williamson of Indian Trail, NC, Kelly Pritchett Oliver (Cody) of Carnesville, Brandon Pritchett (KatieBeth) of Jesup, Nathan Faircloth (Kelly) of Cordele, Timothy Faircloth and Rheanna Faircloth, both of Cleveland, Erik Faircloth of St. Marys, Emily Faircloth of Arabi, Jennifer Thomas, Makayla Porter and Faith Porter, all of Cleveland, three great-grandchildren, Will Oliver, Wyatt Oliver and Tristan Thomas; and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. In the past 14 months, he had the most devoted and loving caretaker anyone could hope to have, Julia Hayes of Cobb whom he loved dearly.  As an expression of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Bay Spring Baptist Cemetery Fund, 161 Bay Spring Road, Arabi, GA 31712 or Ebenezer Baptist Church, 118 Crisp Academy Drive, Cordele, GA 31015.
