Marie Overbay Payne

CORDELE – Marie Overbay Payne, 87, died at her residence Saturday night, Jan. 30, 2016. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016 in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Zion Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.
Mrs. Payne was born in Pine Hill, Rockcastle County, KY to the late Burb Overbay and the late Fatha Matilda Cottengim Overbay. She married Earl Bascum Payne on Nov. 26, 1947 who preceded her in death. Two children, Jill Payne Rogers and Larry Earl Payne, also precede her in death.
Mrs. Payne was a retired para professional for the Crisp County Board of Education. A lady of strong Christian faith, she was a member of Wenona Baptist Church; she taught Sunday School for over 60 years. An avid reader, she also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting.
She is survived by her children: Carol Ann (Denny) Cox of Remington, VA, Jeff (Sharon) Payne of Pineview, GA, Dawn (Joe) Farmer of Warner Robins, GA, Traci (Harold) Dickerson, Melody (Randy) Coffee, and Edna (Tim) Veal all of Cordele; her son-in-law: Randy (Jessica) Rogers of Cordele; her daughter-in-law: Martha Payne of Cordele; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
