CHARLESTON, S.C. — Tammie Thornton Powell, 57, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016. She was born in Bacon County to the late Margaret and Roscoe Thornton of Alma Georgia on January 29, 1959.
Tammie is survived by her son, Jason Powell and his wife, Suzanne Powell of Charleston, South Carolina; her daughter, Anna Powell of Asheville, North Carolina and her son Lee Powell of California; granddaughter, Belle Sullivan Powell and grandson, Jonas Lee Powell of Charleston, South Carolina; two sisters, Marie Tatum and Roxie Goodman. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Powell of Cordele, Georgia and two sisters Vicki Peacock and Wannie Lee.
Being surrounded by family and friends were some of Tammie’s most delightful moments in life, especially time shared with her two grandchildren, Belle and Jonas Powell. Aside from family, Tammie nurtured many personal relationships with coworkers and close friends as though they were her own family. Offers of love, support and guidance for others lended to Tammie’s genuine long lasting relationships in life. She is greatly missed by many.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, May 14, 2016 at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilcox County, Georgia. The family of Tammie Powell can be contacted at the home of Diane and Dave Gandy of 121 Williford Crossing Rd. North, Cordele, GA 31015.
