Lady Patriots drop a close one

Chastity Stephens hit and pitched well for the Wilcox County Lady Patriots Varsity, but it wasn’t enough as Lady Patriots fell to Lanier County 3-2 on Wednesday.
Stephens bat was hot and she went 2-3. She doubled in the second inning and singled in the seventh inning.
Lanier County had no answer for Stephens, who kept runners off the base paths while on the mound. Stephens held Lanier County hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.
Laura Lee Keene started and pitched well but was charged with the loss. She lasted five innings, walked three, struck out four, and allowed three runs.
Neither team scored until the fifth when Wilcox County Lady Patriots got on the board. The Lady Patriots scored on an error.
After a quick strike from the Lady Patriots, Lanier County responded with one run in the fifth. Lanier County scored on an error.
One run in the top of the seventh helped Lady Patriots close its deficit to 3-2. An RBI double by Marquetta Griffin gave Wilcox County a little life, before Lanier closed the game out.Wilcox County finished their regular season with a stunning 21-5 record and now awit their playoff assignment.
