The Lady Cougars lost the first round in the Elite 8 to eventual state champion East Jackson 9-1 and they lost the elimination game to South East Bulloch 6-2 on Saturday. Freshman Rilee Duckworth pitched both games and was relieved in game two by Hunter Meadows. The Cougars made their inaugural appearance in the Elite 8 in softball. The ladies picked up three hits from Hunter Meadows and two hits from Alexis Meadows, Jordan Dickerson, Shelbi Cobb and one from Ansley Mitchell.
Head Coach Ben Robbins had this to say about his team.“Awesome experience for our program. All the conditioning, practice and games we play are to prepare us for the opportunity to play in Columbus. There isn’t any way to prepare a team for the enormity of playing in the Elite 8, except for actually doing it. Our girls got to play in an environment that few teams ever get to and next time it will feel a little more normal.
This year has been a memorable one. We will surely miss our seniors.
They have all three learned to be leaders. They’ve all learned being a leader is much more about action than words. I am very proud of them. This team has raised the bar and it will no doubt help our future teams reach new heights. The support we have received from the community and school system has been incredible. We are very thankful for all the work and support the people have put in to our team. The girls truly appreciate it! It is great to be a Cougar!”
