Funeral services for Vernelle Layfield Timmons of Cordele will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel Of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery.  The family will receive friends prior to the service Wednesday beginning 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Vernelle passed away Monday, March 20, 2017 at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Pitts and was the daughter of the late Oscar Cecil Layfield and Susie Bell Bohannon Layfield. Vernelle was a seamstress retired from Cordele Uniform and a member of Northern Heights Baptist Church. She had a sweet spirit and always had a smile and word for everyone she met. She is survived by two sons, Samuel Earl Timmons, Jr. of Niceville, FL and James Oscar Timmons and his wife, Laura of Jacksonville, FL; four grandchildren, Michael Timmons, Shannon Timmons, Shayla Timmons and Samuel Earl Timmons, III; two brothers and their wives, Duce and Dale Layfield of Tallahassee, FL and Howard and Ginger Layfield of Arabi. She was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Layfield, Benjamin Oscar Layfield, Jim Henry Layfield, Betty Jo Layfield and Norma Ruth Layfield. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
