A graveside service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Kim Katterheinrich, was held for Dorothy Virginia Altman of Cordele at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton Ohio. Dorothy passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Fellowship Home of Cordelia Manor. She was born in Morganfield, KY to the late Esley Chappell and Mary Faulk Chappell. She attended school mostly in Henderson, KY but graduated from Hamilton High in 1939. She married her high school sweetheart, George Altman after he returned from WWII and was his soul-mate for 72 years. She worked at the Board of Education, Chaco Credit Union and Champion Paper Company. She retired from the First Presbyterian Church in Hamilton after being employed there as secretary for 37 years. She had a kind, gentle and compassionate spirit that was evidenced throughout her life. Having been blessed with a sweet, cheerful and magnetic personality, she endeared herself to all who knew her. She never met a stranger, loved helping people, and was famous for her “infectious” laugh! She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and  made many trips to Georgia to enjoy her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Altman, her parents, a sister, Mary and a loving stepfather, Owen Kelley. She is survived by her devoted daughter and her husband, Carol and Doug Hyde of Pitts; grandsons, Chris Hyde and his wife, Dee, and Brian Hyde, all of Cordele. She is also survived by her precious great-grandchildren, Ben and Lindee Hyde of Cordele, Morgan Hyde of Thomson and Whitnney Hyde of Blairsville. She was blessed to have one great-great-grandson, Kade Harbuck of Blairsville.  For those desiring to honor Dorothy with memorials please send to the charity of your choice.
