Wilcox County Chapter of Future Farmers of America recently received a $500 grant from the Georgia Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture.
Wilcox County Chapter Adviser Addie Tucker applied for the grant back in November 2017. Addie is an Agricultural teacher at both Wilcox County High School and Wilcox County Middle School. This is her first year teaching.
“The grant will be used to purchase a chicken coop. We already have an incubator for hatching eggs. We will see the entire life cycle of raising chickens,” Addie said.
Addie also wants the students to learn responsibility and the process of collecting and selling eggs.
The GFB Foundation for Agriculture has two application cycles per year for their 4-H/FFA grants and awards four grants per application cycle. Each grant is a one-time award of $500 to each recipient.
According to their website, “the GFB Foundation for Agriculture is dedicated to enhancing agricultural literacy across Georgia. The program is a funding opportunity for county Farm Bureaus in Georgia to help raise awareness, enhance leadership growth and participate in agricultural literacy projects.”
