The Albany District of Alpha Kappa Delta, an honorary sorority for women educators, recently held their district meeting at Penia Baptist Church in Cordele, GA. Local Alpha Theta Chapter members served as hostesses for this event. Each biennial, the district presents a scholarship to a new teacher in honor of former district chairman, Barbara Ham. The scholarship is given to help a new teacher with supplies for her classroom. This year, the scholarship was presented to a local teacher, Mallory Mitchell Edwards. She is the granddaughter of sister, Carolyn Mitchell and niece of sister, Marion Mitchell Peavy. Mallory is married to William Edwards of Cordele and currently teaches at Crisp County Pre-K. Mrs. Mitchell presented the scholarship along with namesake, Barbara Ham.
