Lady Patriots advance, Cougars and Bobcats eliminated
The Wilcox County girls’ basketball team moved into the quarterfinals of the GHSA class A state playoffs with their 54-45 victory over the Macon County Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday night. The Lady Patriots trailed 29-25 at halftime, but they came out in the second half and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 29-16 to move into the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. Wilcox County now has an overall record of 23-5 so far this year.
They will travel to Dawson in the next round to take on the number two seed in the class A state playoffs, Terrell County. Terrell County has posted a record of 24-4 to this point in the season.
The Crisp County Cougars and the Dooly County Bobcats each had their season come to an end earlier this week in the second round of the GHSA state playoffs.
Crisp County lost to the Westside-Macon Seminoles on Wednesday night in Macon. The Seminoles knocked off the Cougars 75-64 to eliminate Crisp County from the playoffs. The Cougars finished the season with a 9-21 overall record, but the record is not exactly indicative of how competitive they were this season. Several of their losses early on in the season came in close games against some very tough playoff teams, such as Cambridge, Statesboro and Americus-Sumter.
The Bobcats fell to Central-Talbotton in the second round of the GHSA A state tournament on Thursday night. The loss left Dooly with a 16-13 overall record on the season. The Bobcats proved they were a deserving playoff team this season after making it to the semifinals in their region tournament, which featured three of the highest ranked teams in the single A playoff bracket.
