Watermelon Capital Senior Games one week away

The Watermelon Capital Senior Games are only a week away with events set to start at 9 a.m., on Saturday, March 24. Several of the originally scheduled events have been canceled due to lack of participants signing up in those particular events. Participants from many of the surrounding communities are set to compete at the Games, including some from Albany, Byron, Calhoun, Columbus, Hawkinsville, and Pineview, as well as locals from Cordele. The oldest registered participant is 90 years of age, with the youngest at 51 years of age. Among the athletes participating are two married couples and at least one set of siblings.
The revised schedule of events is as follows:
- 50 Meter Dash- 9 a.m. – Rec Dept
- Bag Toss/Corn Hole- 9 a.m. – Rec Dept
- Horseshoes- 10 a.m.- Turner Park
- Discus Throw- 10 a.m.- Rec Dept
- Shot Put- 11 a.m.- Rec Dept
- 100 Meter Dash- 11:30 a.m. – Rec Dept
- Archery – 12 p.m.- Georgia Veterans Park
- Long Jump- 12:45 p.m.- Rec Dept
- 1500 Meter Walk- 1:30 p.m.- Rec Dept
- 200 Meter Dash- 2:15 p.m.- Rec Dept
- Free Throw- 3 p.m.- Rec Dept
- Kayak- 4 p.m. – Georgia Veterans Park
- Softball Throw- 4 p.m.- Rec Dept
