Wilcox baseball team picks up win over Charlton, falls to Hawkinsville

ROCHELLE- The Wilcox County Patriots pulled off an upset victory over Charlton County on Tuesday night to bring their overall record to 7-3 (5-2 region) on the season. The win gave the Patriots a significant boost in the GHSA A power rankings, which determine the schools that advance to the playoffs.

Branson Owens pitched nearly the entire game for the Patriots, throwing 112 pitches over six and two thirds innings of work to come up with the win. He gave up eight hits to Charlton, two walks, three runs (only two earned runs), and recorded nine strikeouts. Brandon Brownlee took the mound to record the final out of the game to pick up the save as Wilcox held on to win 4-3.

Owens led the Wilcox County offense as well, finishing the game with a homerun, and two RBIs. Kam Bruce and Brock White each added a hit and an RBI apiece. Brownlee, Jaydon Coleman and Cameron Patterson all had a hit and a run scored in the game.

The Patriots then traveled to play rivals, Hawkinsville on Thursday afternoon. Hawkinsville was able to come up with the win in the game by a final score of 17-7. Rhett Davis finished the game with three RBIs to the lead the Patriots. Wilcox plays Irwin County for another region game this afternoon at 5:30.
