CORDELE- The Crisp County High School soccer teams closed out their regular season schedules with home games against Worth County on Thursday night.
In the girls’ match, the Lady Cougars defeated Worth County 3-0 to clinch their first region championship in soccer. Greer Payne scored two goals for Crisp County in the game, and Hunter Meadows added the other goal. The win avenged Crisp’s only region loss of the season, after they were defeated in a penalty shootout in Sylvester earlier this season. The win means the Lady Cougars will host in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday. They will enter the playoffs with an overall record of 12-3-1.
The Crisp County boys also picked up the win in their game by defeating the Rams 1-0, with Adam Posey scoring the lone goal in the match. The Cougars will also be in the playoffs this season after finishing with an overall record of 8-8 with a 4-4 mark in region play.
