A memorial service to honor the life of Charles R. “Pee Wee” Spires, 76, of Arabi will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Hatley Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. Charles  passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab. Born in Cordele, he was the son of the late King David Spires and Maudie Marchman Spires. He was also preceded in death by brothers, John Spires, Jack Spires and David Spires and a grandson, Stephen Pate. Charles was a maintenance tech for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and an active member of Hatley Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Charles is survived by his wife of 38 years, Betty Butterworth Spires of Arabi; three children, Vickie Pate of Cordele, Tracy Jackson and her husband, Tommy of Arabi and Harvey Mixon of Cordele; a sister, Gerolene S. Winters and her husband, Boyd of Douglas; three grandchildren, Adam Mixon, Tyler Jackson and Alex Mixon; and two great-grandchildren, Jade Mixon and Madison Mixon.
