James Reuben Akin

James Reuben Akin, age 79, of 5693 Highway 41 North, Vienna, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at Cordele Health & Rehab in Cordele.
Born in Cordele, he was the son of the late John Shannon Akin and Edith Ivey Akin. Reuben served his country with honor in the United States Air Force. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Vienna First Baptist Church was a Deacon and had taught Sunday School.
He is survived by his wife, Faye L. Akin of Vienna; his son, Tommy Akin of Fort Leavenworth, KS; his daughter, Monica Holman of Vienna; his brother, Shannon Akin of Vienna; 4 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 6 in Vienna First Baptist Church. Rev. Matt Stephens and Rev. Brian Leverett will officiate and interment with full military honors will be at 2:00 PM Friday, July 6 in Andersonville National Cemetery.
Darlene Wehunt will provide music for the service and Jimmy Lockerman will sing, “Beulah Land.”
Charles Stephens, Tony Turner, Don Gramm, Marion Hall, Ricky Chadwick, Jimmy Langford, Mike Wehunt, Toby Moore and Neil Joiner will serve as pallbearers.
The family will greet friends 6 – 8 PM Thursday, July 5 at the funeral home.
