Lawton was a United States Army veteran having served from 1955-1957. He was a retired Baptist Minister of 52 years, serving Macedonia in Telfair County, Penia in Cordele for 32 years, Lakeview in Sumter County, and First Avenue in Rochelle. He was the administrator for Camp Houston for 26 years. He was instrumental in starting the church softball league while at Penia, where he enjoyed playing, coaching, and umpiring. Lawton was an avid hunter, fisherman, and golfer. He truly loved his family, church family, and friends. He enjoyed life, which was evident by some of his favorite scriptures. “I come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10b KJV “ This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 ESV He was a faithful servant. Now he can claim 2 Timothy 4:7 KJV “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
