Crisp County basketball teams split region openers at Cook

ADEL— Crisp County High School’s basketball teams opened up their region schedules on Friday night with games at Cook County High. Cook defeated the Lady Cougars 51-34 on the night, while the Cougars knocked off the Hornets 51-33 in the boys’ game.

Cougars 51, Hornets 33

KJ Williams, Ty McKenzie, Tubby Spivey and Cortez Thomas all put up double-digit points in Crisp County’s 51-33 region win over Cook County on Friday night. Crisp shot 23 out of 51 from the field in the contest, and the Cougars put up a total of 11 steals on defense, which helped them hold Cook to the 33 total points.

Final individual stats for each Crisp County player from the win over Cook were as follows: Williams- 11 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal; McKenzie- 10 points, 10 rebounds, and one block; Spivey- 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block; Thomas- 10 points, two rebounds, and five steals; Jayren Fox- four points and three rebounds; PJ Coleman- two points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals; Malik Hall- two points and one steal; Willie Poole- two points; Nathan Willis- two rebounds; Damion Cross- one assist.

The Cougars are now 4-10 overall on the season, with three of those wins coming in their last five games. Friday night’s road win over the Cook Hornets has Crisp off to a 1-0 start in region play.

Lady Hornets 51, Lady Cougars 34

The Lady Cougars were defeated earlier in the night by the Cook County Lady Hornets.

Crisp shot 15 out of 37 on their shot attempts in the game with one made three-point attempt by Tykeemah Armstrong.

Adasia Lee was the leading scorer for Crisp County in the game with 12 points to go with six rebounds. Other final individual stats for the Lady Cougars on the night were as follow: Aaliyah Hardemon- nine points, three rebounds, four assists, and four steals; Tykeemah Armstrong- five points and one steal; Vernasia Sanders- four points and two rebounds; E’lacious Holt- two points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks; Zabria Armstrong- two points and one rebound; Peyton Bozeman- one assist, one steal, and one block; Alexis Porter- two rebounds.

The Lady Cougars fell to 1-13 so far on the season and 0-1 in region play with the defeat at the hands of Cook County.

Crisp County’s teams will play Cook again for their next games this coming Friday night (January 11) starting at 6 p.m in Cordele. Crisp then continues region play against Monroe High School at home on Saturday with the girls’ game tipping off at 6 p.m.
