Cougars move to 4-1 in region with win over Cook

ADEL— The Crisp County boys’ basketball team defeated the Cook County Hornets 56-34 in Adel on Friday night for a sixth win in their last nine games played. The win was the third of the season for the Cougars over the Cook Hornets and it moved Crisp to 4-1 in region play so far on the season.

PJ Coleman was the leading scorer for Crisp in the win with 10 points on five made two-point shots out of  eight attempts, and he added three assists, a rebound and a steal to his final stats.

Final stats for other Cougar contributors in the win: Ty McKenzie- eight points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and two blocks; Willie Poole- seven points, three rebounds and one block; Nathan Willis- six points, four rebounds, four steals and one block; Malik Hall- six points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal; AJ Lofton- six points, one rebound, one assist and one steal; Cortez Thomas- four points, seven rebounds, one assist, three steals and one block; Mar Daniels- four points and five rebounds; KJ Williams- three points, three rebounds and six assists; DJ Nixon- two points and one rebound; Jayren Fox- three rebounds and one steal; Damion Cross- two rebounds and one steal; Courtney Griffin- two rebounds.

The Cougars brought their record to 7-11 overall with the 4-1 mark in region 1-AAA play with Friday’s win. Crisp sits in second place in the region standings behind Monroe (14-5, 5-0 in region) after this past weekend’s results.

Monroe is currently in first place in region 1-AAA because of their win over the Cougars in Cordele earlier this month, but Crisp still has two more chances at the Tornadoes over the final few regular season games. The two teams are scheduled to play tomorrow night in Albany at 7:30 p.m., and then they will play their final regular season matchup on February 1 in Cordele.

The Crisp County Lady Cougars were also in action at Cook County this past Friday night, as they fell to the Lady Hornets by a score of 43-23.

Final stats for the Lady Cougars in Friday’s loss to Cook were as follows: E’lacious Holt- eight points, two rebounds, and two steals; Aaliyah Hardemon- five points, four rebounds, three assists, and one block; Peyton Bozeman- five points, one rebound, and two steals; Alexis Porter- three points, four rebounds, three steals, and one block; Jadah Mumphrey- two points and three rebounds; Adasia Lee- seven rebounds, and one block; Tykeemah Armstrong- three rebounds, two assists and one steal; Chelsey Harvey- one rebound and one assist; Zabria Armstrong- three rebounds.

Both Crisp County teams play tomorrow night at Monroe High School in Albany starting at 6 p.m. Following that, Crisp’s teams are scheduled for weekend games against Worth County in Sylvester this Friday night, and then home non-region games against Dooly County on Saturday night.
