All of the area high school basketball teams now have their schedules set for this week’s region tournaments with the conclusion of this past weekend’s games.

Crisp County High School:

In GHSA region 1-AAA there is no postseason tournament due to all of the teams having to play each region opponent three times during the regular season, but Crisp County High School’s boys’ team (10-12 overall on the season) will be playing Worth County (16-8) tomorrow night in Cordele for the region title. The winner will take the one seed out of 1-AAA going into the state tournament, while the losing team will be the second seed from the region entering the state playoffs. The game will tip-off tomorrow night after the conclusion of the CCHS and Worth County girls’ game that starts at 6 p.m.

The CCHS Lady Cougars snapped a 10-game losing streak over the weekend with a 55-51 win over Monroe High in Cordele on Friday night, while Monroe won the boys’ game on the night over the Cougars 83-70.

Crisp Academy:

CA’s basketball teams split non-region games with Deerfield-Windsor on Friday night to close out the regular season. The Lady Wildcats fell 66-44 to Deerfield on the night, while the Wildcats came up with a 65-59 win to close the regular season with an overall record of 16-4, having won their last nine games and 14 of the last 15.

The CA Lady Wildcats will be in action in the GISA region 3-AA tournament play-in game after finishing as the number five team in the regular season standings. The Lady Cats will play tomorrow night against the fourth-seeded Southwest Georgia Academy Lady Warriors at Terrell Academy starting at 6 p.m. The winner of tomorrow night’s play-in game will then play against the number one seed, Westwood, in the semifinals.

CA’s boys’ varsity team will go straight through to the semifinals of the 3-AA tournament, and they are set to play against Windsor Academy on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Terrell Academy. The winning team will then advance to the region championship game to play against the winner of the other semifinal to be contested between Terrell Academy and the winner of the boys’ play-in game on Monday night (Westwood vs SGA). The losing semifinalists in the tournament will play in consolation games on Friday afternoon to determine the number three and four seeds for the state playoffs.

Wilcox County:

The Wilcox County High School boys’ team added wins over the weekend against Irwin County and Turner County to close out the regular season as the number one seed in GHSA region 2-A, and the Patriots will now get to host the semifinals and title games for the region this weekend.

The Patriots (21-2) do not have to play until a Friday night semifinal game in Rochelle at 8:30 p.m. Their opponent could be any of the following four schools depending on which team advances through the first three rounds of the tournament: fourth seeded Clinch County, five seeded Turner County, eighth seeded Charlton County, or ninth seeded Echols County. The boys’ region championship game is scheduled for 7:30 on Saturday night.

The Lady Patriots (15-9) closed out their regular season schedule with a win over Irwin on Friday night followed by a defeat against Turner County on Saturday night.

The Lady Patriots finished as the three seed in the region standings and they will enter the 2-A tournament in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday night. The quarterfinal round games will be hosted by Lanier County on Wednesday night, and Wilcox will be playing at 7 p.m. that night against the winner of Tuesday night’s game between Echols County (sixth seed) and Atkinson County (seventh seed). If the Wilcox Lady Patriots win their quarterfinal game, they will then be at home in Rochelle for the region semifinals on Thursday night to take on second seeded Clinch County at 7 p.m. Following that the girls’ region championship game will be held in Rochelle on Saturday night at 6 p.m.

Dooly County:

Dooly County’s basketball teams finished up regular season play with a sweep of Taylor County this past Friday night in Vienna.

The Dooly Bobcats (17-7) will begin the GHSA region 4-A tournament in the quarterfinal round on Thursday night. Dooly’s quarterfinal round matchup will be a home game for the Bobcats in Vienna at 8:30 p.m., but their opponent is still to be determined based on how the earlier rounds play out. A Dooly win in the quarterfinals would advance the Bobcats to Friday night’s semifinal round, in which the DCHS boys would be taking on hosts Marion County at 8:30 p.m. for a spot in Saturday’s region title game scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Lady Bobcats (18-5) are set to begin their schedule in the 4-A tournament on Friday afternoon at Marion County, with a game at 4 p.m., but they will not know their opponent until Thursday night’s quarterfinals are complete. The girls’ championship game will also be at Marion County on Saturday and it is scheduled to tip-off at 2:30 p.m.

Fullington Academy:

Fullington Academy’s girls’ basketball team (4-18) is scheduled to play today in the GICAA Divison 1-A Region four tournament play-in game against Grace Christian Academy (9-8) at Georgia Christian School starting at 5 p.m. The winner of tonight’s game will play tomorrow night against top seeded Citizens Christian Academy at Georgia Christian School at 7 p.m.

In the varsity boys’ region tournament bracket, Fullington’s boys’ team is scheduled to play tomorrow against the two seed, CCA, at Georgia Christian School starting at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that contest will advance to Friday’s region championship game, while the losing team will play in the consolation game on Friday night for a state playoff spot.
