CORDELE – Funeral services for Edna Allen Mathis, 85, will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2019, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Mathis was born in Terrell County, Ga. to John H. Allen and Mamie Battle Allen. She was the widow of Carl William Mathis. She is also preceded in death by her son, Carl William Mathis, Jr., and her great-granddaughter, Madeline Wildes.

She was a lifelong homemaker and farmer. She was a member of the Wenona Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She was also a member of Crisp County Farm Bureau.

She is survived by her sons: Wayne (Sue) Mathis of Wilmington Island, Ga., Wallace (Lori) Mathis and Wesley (Beverly) Mathis all of Cordele; her daughter-in-law: Melanie Snead Mathis of Americus, Ga.; her brother, George Allen of Odessa, Tex.; eight grandchildren: Deena (Matt) Britt, Leslie (Brian) Pitts, Amanda (Foy) Shemwell, Nathan Mathis, Carlie Mathis, Matthew (Holly) Mathis, Brice (Tamala) Mathis and Martin Mathis; and her great-grandchildren: Fisher Britt, Annalise Britt, Joseph Pitts, Sophia Pitts, Mary William Shemwell, Gray Shemwell and Harper Mathis.
