The Georgia Chamber of Commerce announced its 2019 Legislators of the Year on Wednesday, June 5th during a reception at their Annual Spring Government Affairs Council Meeting.
Each year, the Georgia Chamber awards one state Senate member, one state House member and one freshman legislator as their Legislators of the Year. This year’s recipients are Senator P.K. Martin (Lawrenceville), Representative Chuck Efstration (Dacula) and Representative Noel Williams (Cordele), respectively.
These awards are given to those elected officials who focus their legislative efforts on enacting policies that promote economic development and job creation throughout the state. These legislators are voted on by the Executive Committee of the Georgia Chamber’s Government Affairs Council (GAC), the body that both determines the organization’s legislative agenda, and directs the positions the organization takes on specific legislation.
“It is a great honor to be recognized as the ‘Rookie’ Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Chamber,” said Representative Noel Williams. “I’ve learned a lot during my first year in the general assembly, and part of that is the importance of working with meaningful advocates like those within the business community. The Georgia Chamber is a great resource for legislators as we strive to keep Georgia number one for business.”
“It is an honor to be awarded the Senate Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Chamber,” said Senator P.K. Martin. “With the Chamber’s support, we were able to enact legislation this year which affords all Georgia students the opportunity to take a computer science course before graduating from high school. Preparing our future workforce remains a shared priority for both myself and the Georgia Chamber, and I look forward to continuing our great partnership.”
Representative Chuck Efstration stated, “I am proud to work with the Georgia Chamber as we expand business opportunities statewide through lower taxes and promoting a fair legal climate. I will continue to fight for sound public policy that results in economic mobility and continued growth for all Georgians.”
The Georgia Chamber congratulated this year’s award recipients and commended them for their dedication to their constituents.
“On behalf of the Georgia Chamber, we not only congratulate these legislators on their awards, but we thank them for their unwavering support of the statewide business community,” said David Raynor, Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for the Georgia Chamber. “It is more important now than ever to have elected officials who will make job creation and economic prosperity top priorities in our state, and I could not think of better examples than this year’s recipients.”
