Funeral services for Karen Merritt of Unadilla will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2019 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The committal service will follow in Arabi Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m.

Karen passed away Monday, June 17, 2019 at Crisp Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. She fought a courageous battle over the last seven and a half years, but the tenacity that she had didn’t surprise any who knew her. That fighting spirit was evident in her work and friendships. A smart and talented young lady, she had a gorgeous smile and was filled with a sense of loyalty, warmth and compassion for others. Always civic minded, she was involved with many community activities including the Watermelon Festival, Kiwanis Club and Main Street. Karen attended Radford University in Virginia, but graduated from Florida State University with a BS Degree in English.  Her love of English and linguistics could be seen through her lifetime love of reading and writing. She was the owner and operator, until her declining health, of Georgia Design.  She doted on her six nieces and nephews and they were her passion in life.

She is survived by her parents, George and Nan Merritt of Unadilla; two sisters, Gena Merritt Ledford, and Melinda Merritt Edwards and her husband, David, all of Cordele; and her six special nieces and nephews, Sam Ledford, Davis Adkins, Sydney Ledford, Jordan Adkins, Camille Ledford and Peyton Adkins. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services. An online guest register is available at www.raineyfuneral.com
