David Franklyn Smith, 58 of Arabi, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his residence after a long-fought and courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2019 at New Covenant Church of Cordele on South Hwy. 41. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon, August 14 at Rainey Family Funeral Services from 4 until 6 p.m.
David was born in Cordele and was the son of the late John Rawlins Smith and Ruby Pearl Garrett Smith. He was also pre-deceased by two sisters, Johnnie Ruth Smith and Joyce Pate.
David was a retired truck driver for Arnold Trucking and an active member of New Covenant Church of Cordele. David was a special man with a heart full of love and kindness for everyone, and especially for his family and his grandbabies. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed fishing and listening to rock ‘n’ roll. He also loved the open road and riding his motorcycle. David is survived by his wife of 26 and a half years, Lorey Alexander Smith; his sons and their wives, Matthew and Olivia Odom of Ivey, and Payton and Mistey Odom of Pitts; four grandsons, Abram Odom, Ethan Odom, Jackson Odom and Joe Odom; a brother and his wife, Tommy and Sherri Smith of Arabi; a niece and two nephews, Tommie DeLoach, Derrick Smith, and Jared Smith and his wife, Katelyn; and his special buddy and best pal, Reno.
