Funeral services for Jerry Robert Nipper of Ashburn will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services with burial following in Arabi Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jerry passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at his residence. Born in Sumter County, he was the son of the late A.J. Nipper, Sr. and Carrie Elizabeth Harris Nipper. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea. Jerry was the maintenance superintendent for the City of Sycamore and an active member of Morningside Baptist Church in Turner County. He also served with the Turner County volunteer fire department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman but his biggest enjoyment came from spending time with his many grandchildren. Jerry is survived by his wife of 45 years, Betty Faye Blalock Nipper of Ashburn; two children, Franklin Douglas and his wife, Teresa of Ashburn, and Gary Douglas of Rincon; a son-in-law, Michael Taft of Ashburn; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Taft; and three brothers, A.J. Nipper, Jr., Lewis Pollis Nipper and H.F. Nipper. Arrangements are by Rainey Family Funeral Services.
