Funeral services for Spurgeon Cromer Adkins of Cordele will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2020 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. Interment will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Spurgeon, 65, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020. Born in Ft. Jackson, SC, he was the son of Spurgeon Wayne Adkins and Carolyn Hobbs Adkins. He attended ABAC and was the retired owner and operator of Adkins Repair Service and an active member of Bethel Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons. Spurgeon, better known as “Trick Daddy” enjoyed being a jokester and having fun everywhere he went. A regular at Cindy’s Diner, he enjoyed the fellowship and the story and “lie” swapping. One of his favorite pastimes was going to the mountains and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. Spurgeon’s passion in life though and what he was most well-known for was drag racing, having participated in the sport for many years all over the southeast. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie Thompson Adkins of Cordele; his parents, Wayne and Carolyn Adkins of Cordele; three sons and their wives, Andy Spurgeon and Natalie Adkins of Warner Robins, Christopher Chad Adkins of Macon and Justin Moody and Ashlyn Adkins of Vienna; two grandsons, Asa Spurgeon Adkins of Warner Robins and Lucas Moody Adkins of Vienna; two brothers, David Adkins and his wife, Elaine of Shiloh and Wendell Adkins of Cordele; two sisters and their husbands, Lisa and Jason Houston of McDonough and April and Tommy Riddle of Watkinsville; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
