Sara Diane Gilbert, age 74, formerly of Cordele, living in Lakeland, GA, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, October 22, 2023. Born in Cordele, she was the daughter of the late Albert Clarence Wilkerson and Sara Daniels Wilkerson. Diane as her family described her was a treasure to the family and everyone she knew. As a homemaker, her love for her family was the devotion and desire of her life. The grandchildren held a special place in her heart. According to her family, everyone came first before herself. She loved cooking with baking desserts being her specialty along with the delicious asparagus casserole made with loving hands every Thanksgiving. Her hobbies included ceramics, crafting, and shopping. She loved the songs of Elvis Presley and Conway Twitty. Diane attended Vienna First Baptist Church during her lifetime and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Gary Gilbert; two brothers, Albert Wilkerson (Cathy) of Cordele, and Lee Wilkerson (Deborah) of Gatlinburg, TN; two daughters, Lisa McLemore of Lakeland, and Lori Hobby (Jon) of Tyrone, GA; six grandchildren, Christopher McLemore Jr. (Adrianna) of San Diego, CA, Lizzy Jolley (Dee) of Lakeland, James McLemore (Melissa) of Tifton, Jonathan Hobby of Jacksonville, NC, Drew Hobby of Tyrone, and Jon Austin of Tyrone; one great-grandchild, Braylen Odum; nephews, Kenny Wilkerson (Carie) and their daughters, Reagan and Brianna Wilkerson, Justin Wilkerson, Tyler Wilkerson (Jess); and one niece, Becky Smith, and her daughter, Allie Smith. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 1:00 – 2:45 pm at Rainey Family Funeral Services. A graveside service at 3:00 pm will follow at the Vienna City Cemetery.
