Douglas Olin “Doug” Dorough, 89, of Leesburg, GA, died March 21, 2024 at his residence.  Funeral services will be held Monday, March 25, 2024 with visitation at 10 am and service following at 11 am at Mathews Funeral Home.   Rev. Chuck Knight will officiate.  Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens.

Mr. Dorough was born in Dooly County, GA on March 13, 1935 to Thomas and Katie Dorough.  After graduating from Crisp County High School, Mr. Dorough proudly served his country in The United States Army.  While serving in Germany, he met the love of his life, Herta Egger.  After returning from Germany, they lived in Cordele, Americus and then to Albany in 1962.  Mr. Dorough was employed with Sears Roebuck for thirty five years and moved to Lee County, GA in 2013.  He was a member of Porterfield Methodist Church and volunteered with his wife for the Sowega Council on Aging with their Meals on Wheels Program.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elgy, Ralph, Hershel & Earl, and sisters, Francis & Ruth. He also lost his beloved wife, Herta, in 2019 after 62 years of marriage.

Doug, or Opa, as he was affectionately known by family and friends, enjoyed fishing, tending to his garden, watching old Westerns & listening to country music. He was a true Christian man who loved his Lord & Savior. A huge part of his life was Georgia sports teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, Braves & his beloved Georgia Bulldawgs. Who he proudly got to see win three National Championships.  His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, family and precious grand & great grandchildren.

Survivors include his children, Cindy (Richard) Porter of Leesburg, GA and Norman Olin Dorough of Albany, GA, two grandchildren, Stacie (Jeremy Dollar) Porter Brown of Lee County, GA and Ricky  (Elizabeth) Porter of Crawfordville, FL and four great-grandchildren, Emma Porter, Rigby Brown, Liam Porter & Aiden Dollar.

The family would like to recognize and express their deep appreciation to our caregiver, Pam Klias, for her extreme kindness, caring & dedication to our Daddy & Opa.
