Good morning, Cordele. We are days away from Easter and are once again increasing our presence within the community. We are aware of planned gatherings that have circulated on social media for an event at Reid Park in Cordele.

Due to a recent uptick in extreme violence that has resulted in the two tragic deaths of local citizens and a third being seriously injured, we are urging citizens not to attend these large gatherings. This violence is believed to be gang-related, with retaliatory shootings possible. Our agency is still actively working with other agencies to bring those responsible to justice and prevent further unnecessary loss of life.

These gatherings have in the past resulted in assaults, shootings, dui’s, property damage, loud noise, extreme amounts of litter, and several other unnecessary problems for our community.

This is not about keeping people from visiting loved ones, hunting eggs, attending church, or other Easter activities.
