The Cordele City Commission met on Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 9am at the Cordele City Hall Courtroom with Chairman Joshua Deriso, Commissioner Vest Beal Shepard, Commissioner Isaac H. Owens, Commissioner Royce Reeves, Sr., Commissioner Wesley Rainey and City attorney, Tommy Coleman in attendance.

Agenda item number one was a proclamation for Week of the Young Child: Crisp County Headstart. This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Agenda item number two was a proclamation for Natural Gas Utility Workers Day. This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously. This Proclamation recognizes March 18th, 2024 as Natural Gas Utility Worker’s Day. Ward 3 Commissioner, Hon. Isaac Owens read the Proclamation into the minutes. The Proclamation was accepted by Gas Superintendent Tina Bearden

Agenda item number three was the approval of New Board Appointments for Cordele Animal Control – Brandi Akin, and Cordele Historic Preservation Commission – Susan Barge

This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Agenda item number four was to consider and approve an Event Permit: T-Mobile Hometown Grant Presentation, April 18, 2024, 9:30AM – 12:30PM at Gillespie Gardens, 601 West 15th Ave. Organizer is Dravian McGill. Special Request: To block off West 15th Ave. to 16th Ave. This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Agenda item number five was to consider and approve a proposal from TTL, Inc, for Watershed Monitoring, Bioassessment and Annual Report. This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Background Summary Information:

The scope of work includes sample collection, sample analyses and reporting for five (5) sampling locations. This project is required by EPD under the NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) Wastewater Permit.

Agenda item number six was to consider and approve the request for items listed from the Fire Department to be declared surplus and to allow the City of Cordele to dispose of the surplus items via GovDeals.com. This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Agenda item number seven was to consider and approve LMIG Local Road Assistance (LRA) Projects. This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Agenda item number eight was to consider and approve a Resolution of the City of Cordele recognizing Georgia Cities Week, April 21-27, 2024 and encouraging all residents to support the celebration and corresponding activities. This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.

Agenda item number nine was to consider and approve the first reading of an Ordinance amending the City Code of the City of Cordele to delete paragraph K of Section 3.64; Adopting a new paragraph K of section 3.64; repealing all ordinances in conflict herewith; and for other purposes. This item was properly moved, seconded, and approved unanimously.

City Manager’s report:

Occupation Tax

If you have not renewed your occupation license, it is now overdue and a penalty has been added. Those who have no renewed will also receive a summons to appear in municipal court.

Alley Trash

Signs for alleys have been chosen and will be placed in alleys across town. The public should be aware that there is a fine of up to $1,000 if you put trash in the alley.

LMIG Safety Grant

The grant has been used to put two warning signs up. One on 6th Ave W that warns trucks of low clearance and the second one is on 9th Ave under the railroad that is a low point and warns of flooding.

Bud’s Flower Truck – Floral Sales that is limited to City Limits.

Superior HI-Gloss Floor & Cleaning Service – Janitorial Service that is limited to City Limits.

Public Notice – City of Cordele Cemetery Guidelines

The City of Cordele will begin implementing guidelines outlined in the City Code of Ordinances for Cemeteries. Per the ordinance, the city may remove artificial flowers, silk flowers, artificial shrubs, pictures, stuffed animals, miscellaneous objects and ornaments and other items that have become water logged, scattered, discolored or damage. A maximum of two (2) of the items listed above are allowed per grave space. Rocks, solar lights, and other items not mentioned above are not allowed. The City of Cordele would like to give families the opportunity to remove these items before April 16, 2024. After April 16, 2024, as outlined in the Cemetery Guidelines, the City will remove these items. Please direct any questions regarding cemetery guidelines to the City Clerk.
