William J. Findley, Jr. of Cordele passed away Monday, May 27, 2024, at his residence at the age 82. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024 in the chapel of Rainey Family Funeral Services. The family will greet friends prior to the service Saturday beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Born in Jesup, he was the son of the late William J. Findley, Sr and Atheline Register Findley. He was a graduate of Lyons High School and attended Brewton-Parker College. He received a BA in Industrial Arts Education from Georgia Southern and his Masters from the University of Georgia. The Crisp County Board of Education hired him in 1963 to establish the Industrial Arts Program. He remained a devoted and beloved teacher at Crisp County High School for 38 years. He also gave of his time by teaching classes in the prison system. His love of the outdoors and Lake Blackshear was the inspiration behind his and wife Barbara’s settling in Cordele to live and work. He was an avid beekeeper for many years and loved gardening and water sports. William was a charter member of a model airplane club, the Flint Flyers, but he also was a pilot and built his own airplane. He was a classic car and ham radio enthusiast and used that knowledge during the 1994 flood by being the communications coordinator. He was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. William is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Moore Findley of Cordele; a son, Michael Findley; two daughters, Misty (Coleman) Bennett, Tara (Scott) Findley; four  grandchildren, Michael Findley, Rayna Findley, Bower Bennett and Loclyn Findley-Larson; and his constant companion and furbaby, Molly.
