On June 5, 2024 at approximately 5:00pm a Georgia State Trooper was attempting to pull over a man speeding down Georgia Highway 27 in a Chrysler 200 heading from Vienna to Hawkinsville around the 17 mile marker. As he was about to pull the man over, the man took off fleeing from the Trooper, swerving through traffic at about 103 miles per hour. At the 20-21 mile marker the road had opened up and the Trooper conducted a pit maneuver at approximately 100 miles per hour on the rear driver side. The pit maneuver caused the car to flip and vault approximately 500 feet. The man had minor injuries and was able to get out of the car. The man hid in the grass and attempted to flee on foot, the GSP sent a dog out and they were able to arrest him. Charges are still pending.
