Margie Coleman Albritton, 85, passed away Wednesday morning, July 10, 2024, at Blackshear Retirement Villas. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Hughes and Wright Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends on Friday, July 12, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Hughes and Wright Funeral Home.
She was born August 23, 1938, in Crisp County to George Coleman and Thelma Williams Coleman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Albritton, a sister, Marilyn Coleman Worley, and a brother, Sammy Coleman. She was an employee of the Georgia Department of Agriculture and served as the first female manager of the Cordele Farmers’ Market. She enjoyed supporting and serving all aspects of agriculture and farmers, buyers, and local produce sellers in their efforts. Her greatest joy was cooking, preparing her home and meals for family gatherings, and making sure everyone had enough to eat, including road trips where she frequently began distributing a variety of snacks to all inside the car after only 5 to 10 minutes of embarking on the trip. She was a faithful servant in the church, and she considered her church family to be just like her blood family. Her gift of service was evident throughout the years as she often provided transportation to the elderly widows of the church to be able to attend church regularly. She was always preparing food and doing whatever was needed to show her love for the Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cordele during her later years but previously attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed returning for special services including homecoming and gospel sings.
She is survived by a son, Dale (Alis) Albritton of LaGrange, a daughter, Jennifer (Larry)Abercrombie of Cordele, grandchildren, Chris Albritton and Sarah Albritton of LaGrange, Rebecca (Jimmy) Denham of Auburn, Justin (Katie) Abercrombie of Statesboro, and Christian Abercrombie of Americus. Her great-grandchildren include Jonah Albritton, Jane Abercrombie, James Denham, and soon-to-be-born Jude Abercrombie. Her surviving brothers include Marion (Janice) Coleman, Wayne (Connie)Coleman, Darrell (Susan) Coleman, and Murray Coleman, all of Cordele. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Judy (Ron) Hobbs, Carolyn Howard, and Bobbie Moore of Cordele, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Lisa McClendon and the staff at Blackshear Retirement Villas, Crisp Regional Hospice, and her special caregiver, Daisy Thompson, for taking exceptional care of our mother and grandmother.
