CORDELE — For Wilcox County Head Coach Mark Ledford, Friday night’s win was a great start to a long Labor Day Weekend.

The Patriots, having lost the last three years to Hawkinsville made a statement. They traveled just a tick under thirty minutes north and came away with a 18-13 victory.

It was a defensive struggle that saw Wilcox take the lead in the first by a score of 6-0, before allowing a Red Devil touchdown and in the second quarter to trail 7-6 at the break.

   A 12 point third quarter was all that the Patriots needed to seal the deal on their first win as they held off a surging Hawkensville offense in the fourth.

  Wilcox will take on Bleckley County Friday night.
