CORDELE —  A press conference was held earlier today in regards to Tuesday night’s shooting outside the Sunset Food Mart, located at 503 West 24th Avenue.

Ssgt. Jeremy Taylor identified the victims as 20-year old Osiris Jones and 20-year old Jamal Grover.

According to Taylor, the incident took place at around 5:30 PM when officers were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival they found Jones with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to Crisp Regional Hospital by EMS. Grover, who was shot in the foot, was taken to CRH via a private vehicle. Neither victim suffered in life threatening injury.

Reports indicated that Jones had been in an altercation with the shooting suspect. The two had exchanged words outside the establishment. The suspect left the area and returned at which time more words were exchanged before the suspect pulled a gun and began shooting. Grover was a bystander.

Taylor advised they are currently working several leads, with names floating around, mostly nicknames.

“We will release the name as soon as we have it,” said Taylor.

When asked about loitering outside local businesses being an issue, Taylor said it could very well be a contributing factor. He said they hope to work with business owners to come up with a solution.

“I hope the public will allow the justice system to prevail,” he said. “Let us do our jobs. I hope we don’t have any instances of vigilante justice. If you see something or know something, report it.
