CORDELE — The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will be hosting a Child Safety event from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 in the Goody’s parking lot.
“This is an opportunity for children to learn about safety and the different public safety agencies in the area,” said Dep Kris Herrick who is spearheading the event for the CCSO. “It is important that children know we are here for them, to protect them. It is a way for our local agencies to continue to bridge that gap between them and our local youth and the community to come together as a whole.”
Some of the agencies that will be on hand at the event include; CCSO, Crisp County Fire and Rescue, Cordele Police Department, Cordele Fire Department, Crisp County EMS, AirEvac, and more.
According to Herrick kids will have the opportunity to learn about what area first responders do on the job. They will have a beer goggles demonstration, a rollover simulator which will demonstrate what can happen when you do not wear your seat belt, and other equipment for kids to see.
“We want kids to ask questions if they have any,” said Herrick. “We want this to be a learning experience for them.”
Herrick, who has assisted with events such as this in other areas said he thought it would be a great idea to bring it to the community.
