CORDELE — April is Autism Awareness month. Many of us have a family member or friend that is affected by Autism. To raise awareness there are several events planned in the city throughout the month of April and all citizens and businesses are encouraged to participate.
Everyone is encouraged to wear blue on Friday, April 1st.
A balloon release will be held at the Community Clubhouse on Friday, April 1st at 12:30 p.m. Balloons will be provided so everyone is asked to attend.
National Autism Awareness Month is celebrated worldwide. Autism spectrum disorders affect 1 in 68 individuals. While there is no cause of or cure for autism, it is treatable.
Autism Speaks was founded in February 2005 by Bob and Suzanne Wright, grandparents of a child with autism. Their longtime friend Bernie Marcus donated $25 million to help financially launch the organization.
Since then, Autism Speaks has grown into the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization, dedicated to funding research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a possible cure for autism; increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders; and advocating for the needs of individuals with autism and their families.
Autism Speaks is proud of what they’ve been able to accomplish and look forward to continued successes in the years ahead. For more information about Autism Speaks please visit www.AutismSpeaks.org.
April 2 is the official Autism Awareness Day.
