Qualifying underway for Cordele Circuit District Attorney

Secretary of State Brian Kemp issued the following press release on Wednesday, August 10.

ATLANTA, GA – Secretary of State Brian Kemp reminds interested parties that qualifying opens Thursday, August 11, 2016 to run for District Attorney in the Cordele Judicial Circuit. A special election will be held in Crisp, Dooly, Wilcox, and Ben Hill Counties on November 8, 2016.

Qualifying for the special election will be held in the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE, 802 West Tower, Atlanta, Georgia 30334 and the South Georgia Office, 238 2nd Street E, Tifton, Georgia 31794.

The qualifying period opens tomorrow beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.; Friday, August 12, 2016 beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m.; and Monday, August 15, 2016 beginning at 8:00 a.m.and ending at 2:00 p.m. The qualifying fee shall be $3,430.61.

A run-off election, if needed, is set for December 6, 2016. In March, Brad Rigby was named Cordele’s acting District Attorney after Denise Fachini resigned the post to run for Superior Court Judge in the circuit.

All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to vote in the special election must register to vote before the close of business on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
