Early voting period for elections in the City of Cordele is set to begin on Monday, October 16, Crisp County Board of Election officials gathered to discuss logistics on the impending vote.

According to Crisp County Elections Supervisor Becky Perkins, early voting will take place in the Crisp County Government Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.  until Friday, November 3.

Perkins said that she wanted to instituted early tabulation for this election cycle, in order to speed up the process of counting votes.

“A lot of counties around Atlanta have done this,” said board member Jerome Outlaw.

Early tabulation involves sequestering poll workers for a set period of time as they open only the outer envelopes and get the voting machines prepared.

Perkins stated that she would only need 3-6 workers to do this.

Outlaw motioned that they allow Perkins the option of Early Tabulation, which board member Ronnie Gray seconded before the motion passed without any objection

In the board’s previous meeting, it had been decided that in the case of a run-off for any of the three seats up for grabs on the Cordele City Commission, it would be held on Tuesday, December 5.

The board voted on removing a total of 10 individuals from the county’s election listing. Nine of the individuals were removed because they recently passed away. The other individual was removed due to being a felon.

One point of discussion during the meeting was the importance of the exterior work currently being done on the County Government Center to be finished by the start of voting.

At this point in time, construction has blocked off the entrance, worrying board members it will be difficult for voters to cast their ballots.

Perkins informed board members she had ordered a 3×6 election banner that would be hung to notify residents where they could vote at.

Elections are scheduled for November 7.
