Cordele City Commissioners discuss ongoing projects

y, February 20, 2018 Cordele City Commissioners met and discussed projects that are still ongoing. Chairman John Wiggins reminded everyone in the beginning of the meeting that the deadline for submitting a topic or concern to be included in the agenda is Thursday at noon before the scheduled meeting on the following Tuesday.
The Sidewalks on 8th, 10th, and 13th Streets South of 24th project have had the right of way acquisition completed. The sidewalks project let date is currently set for May 17, 2018.
Engineering plans have been approved for the Sidewalks for Pecan St. project.
According to City Manager, Edward Beach, the city is looking for an additional home to rehabilitate for the Gillespie-Selden Rehab Project/Urban Renewal.
For the Quiet Community Project, work is still in progress for the CSX study/engineering plans along with waiting for the final approval from CSX.
Cordele Police Chief Rob Rodriguez talked about plans to enlarge the Cordele Animal Shelter. An additional wing will be added on to accommodate more animals. Chief Rodriguez also announced there will be a promotion ceremony sometime in late March, an official date will be released later. There are also two positions available within the investigations department.
The next Cordele City Commissioners meeting will be on Tuesday, March 6 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the 2nd floor courtroom in Cordele City Hall located at 501 7th St. N.
