Hwy 33 wreck leaves two people dead, multiple injured

WORTH COUNTY– On Sunday, July 15 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a fatal car wreck left two people dead and multiple injured on Highway 33. The wreck involved three vehicles. A 2014 F150 truck was traveling North on Highway 33 when the driver, 18-year-old Charlie Carpenter failed to maintain lane and traveled into the Southbound lane. The truck struck the front right of a 2006 Toyota Tundra traveling Southbound with a family of three. The driver of the Toyota Tundra, 46-year-old Vannak Phuong was killed on impact. The other passenger, 37-year-old Sophie Ren later succumbed to her injuries the following morning, July 16 at Crisp Regional Hospital. Ren was in the backseat directly behind the driver’s seat next to her 1-year-old child who was in a rear-facing car seat in the center backseat. The one-year-old survived and is currently in the hospital.

29-year-old Stephanie Cuddy was the driver of the third vehicle, a 2017 Dodge Ram. The third vehicle was traveling Southbound behind the Toyota Tundra and hit the back end of the Tundra when the crash occurred. Cuddy and Carpenter were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Currently there are no charges pending against Carpenter.

Georgia State Patrol are continuing to investigate the crash. We will update with more information as it becomes available.
