Two accidents last weekend, resulting in serious injuries to a motorcyclist and an ATV rider, required both to be flown by helicopter to Navicent Hospital in Macon.
Dawn Smith, 48, of Cordele, suffered a fractured skull and broken ribs after she was thrown from the ATV as it traveled on Bodrey Rd, a dirt road near Cemetery Road in eastern Crisp County.
“She was just going too fast,” said Georgia State Patrol Trooper Raul Mejia.” She and her passenger, Ashley Glenn, 29, were thrown from the ATV after Smith lost control. Glenn was taken to Crisp Regional Hospital where she was treated and released.
Mejia said he talked to Smith’s husband on Wednesday who reported that she was steadily improving, although she couldn’t yet leave the hospital .
A motorcyclist, Christopher Lehman, 27, of Sylvester, collided with a car on U.S. Highway 300 and Pateville Rd.
A Ford Escape was traveling east on Pateville Road,” said GSP Trooper Dillon Pate. “It failed to yield when it crossed 300 and the motorcyclist hit the front right side of the Escape and was thrown onto the hood of the car.”
Lehan was flown to Navicent Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries Wednesday night.
