Over 350 individuals participated in South Georgia Technical College’s Spring Take-Off and Program Preview event in the James S. Peters Gymnasium (The Hangar) on the Americus campus and were treated to demonstrations about the over 200 associate degree, diploma, and short-term technical certificates of credit programs available.

“This was a tremendous event,” said South Georgia Technical College President Dr. John Watford.  “I would like to thank everyone for their support of this event.  We had a great response from area high schools and the local community.  I was very impressed with the creativity of our faculty and staff.  They did an awesome job of preparing the campus and their program booths for this event.  This was a great opportunity for someone who has been thinking about changing careers or learning new skills to find out if South Georgia Tech can help them achieve their goals.”

Students from Terrell Academy, Sumter County High School, Schley County High School Furlow Charter School, Macon County High School, Taylor County High School, Dooly County High School as well as Stewart County and Randolph-Clay High Schools attended the event.

The purpose of the Spring Take-Off was to highlight each of South Georgia Technical College’s program areas, and inform prospective students of educational, financial aid opportunities, career placement, clubs and organizations, and other services SGTC offers.   All South Georgia Technical College faculty and staff were on hand to help with the event and answer questions.

Instructors from each program area created a booth with information about their programs and were on hand to talk one-on-one with prospective students and their families about SGTC’s programs of study.  Tours of the campus were also given upon request. SGTC displayed its Motorsports race car, Caterpillar equipment, John Deere tractors, STEM Trailer, and Law Enforcement Academy vehicles in front of the gymnasium.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, cookies, ice cream, and sodas were served by the SGTC Culinary Arts instructors and students.  There were opportunities to win door prizes and register for SGTC Foundation scholarships as well.

A committee consisting of individuals from each of the major departments at South Georgia Technical College helped planned the event.
